ABOUT OUR DOJO
About the Samurai Karate Hout Bay dojo and the history that came before it
At the Samurai Karate Hout Bay dojo we practice the Kimura Shukokai karate technique. The Kimura Shukokai karate style has a very long history that starts at the beginning of the 20th century in Japan. We, at the Samurai Karate Hout Bay dojo, are very proud to be students of teachers who were fortunate to train with the Founder of our style Soke Shigeru Kimura, 10th Dan, who died tragically at the age of 54 in 1995 in America. After he had moved there from Japan 29 years earlier. He is fondly remembered by all who practise Shukokai karate.
Our teachers in Sensei John Shaw, 6th Dan, who has been practising karate for over 40 years, and Shihan Chris Thompson, 9th Dan, who is one of our World Chief Instructors of Kimura Shukokai International and has been practising the art of karate for over 50 years, have a wealth of experience which they share unselfishly. Our students pride themselves in learning without judgement – come with an empty plate and you will be fed.
We hope that all who join this special family will share in the proud tradition that is Kimura Shukokai. We wear our fist with pride.
